Bùi Viêt Hoa is a translator who has studied in Hungary and now lives in Finland. Before she did a poetic translation of the Kalevala, she did two abridged prose versions. Cao Xuan Nghiep published a Vietnamese version of the Kalevala in 1986 and there are excerpts of poems in this version. The Kalevala by Hoàng Thái Anh (1991) was a translation of a translation: it was based on the Italian Finlandia, terra di eroi by Elena Primicerio from 1941.
