In 2015, the 620 pages long Kalevala was published. It was translated into Belarusian by Yakub Lapatka and it is the longest work of poetry that has ever been translated into Belarusian. Before this, only parts of the Kalevala had been translated into Belarusian. The translation is based on the Finnish Kalevala and the book is illustrated with works of art by Akseli Gallen-Kallela.
The Belarusian translation of the Kalevala was finalised already in 2008. Lauri Pullola, an embassy counsellor, hade a huge interest in the Kalevala and because of his active work a publisher as well as supporters were found for the translation. Zmicier Kolas Publishing House has edited the book and the publication received funding from several Belarusian and Finnish companies. The translation by Lapatka can be found in the largest bookstores in Minsk.
