There are three different versions of the Kalevala in the Romanian language. Literature critic Barbu B. Brezianu published a prose translation in 1942 and an abridged version of it for children in 1965. Julian Vesper’s complete translation of the Kalevala in poetic meter was published between the two above mentioned translations. Vesper had, to a great extent done the translation with the help of translations in other languages. Neiter one of the translators knew Finnish.
